Tech Empire: Apple

As a user of the Apple integrated experience, I can say I have a history with the company. Plenty of you must own iPhones, MacBooks, or even Apple watches. Apple is one of those companies you can find anywhere in the world. Though they are expensive, plenty of people who are considered humble don’t mind splurging a bit at an Apple store once in a while. And there are plenty of reasons for this which will be talked about, and more.

Apple is a tech company headquartered in Cupertino, California. The company was founded by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne in 1976. Since then it has grown to be one of the most powerful tech empires of all time. Apple was originally founded as a personal computer company, and its first product was the Apple I which was released in 1976. The company’s next product, the Apple II, was a huge success, and it cemented Apple’s position as a leader in the personal computer industry.  In the 1980s, Apple released the Macintosh computer which featured a graphical user interface and a mouse, making it much easier to use than other personal computers at the time.

In the 2000s period, they began thinking about smaller and more consumable products like smartphones, iPods, and iPads. These products helped Apple become one of the most valuable companies in the world, with a market capitalisation of over $2 trillion as of 2021 (Statista, 2021).

Their most bought and successful product is their iPhone. The reason is most likely because of how Apple is viewed by the higher class segment due to its price. Whether that is correct or not the atmosphere around it contributes to how well the phone does in stores. In the fourth quarter of 2020, Apple sold over 215 million iPhones worldwide (Statista, 2021). The company has also continued to release new products, including the Apple Watch and the AirPods, which have been well-received by consumers.

Just because Apple has made bank doesn’t mean they have begun slouching. Apple has also been working on several projects that could shape the future of technology. One of these projects is the development of autonomous vehicles. Some people say it could just be a knock off Tesla but with their usual performance, I believe that they will strive to be better.  In 2019, Apple acquired a self-driving car startup called Drive.ai, and there have been rumours that the company is working on its self-driving car (The Verge, 2021). Apple has also been investing in augmented reality (AR) technology, and the company’s CEO, Tim Cook, has stated that he believes AR will be “as important as eating three meals a day.” (The Verge, 2021)

In conclusion, Apple is a technology company that has had a significant impact on the industry over the past several decades. From its early days as a personal computer company to its current position as a leader in consumer electronics, Apple has consistently released innovative products that have shaped the way we interact with technology. With its focus on autonomous vehicles and AR, it is clear that Apple is continuing to push the boundaries of what is possible in the technological space.
