Defending Champions Accra Rugby Club of Ghana will have a lot of obstacles to contend with as clubs from Togo, Benin Republic and host country Nigeria are ready to confront them at the 12th Sandie Beach Rugby for the title this weekend.
The Ghanaians became the champion after emerging tops at the end of a round robin format at the last year’s edition.
The annual rugby showdown heavily loaded with high-level entertainment will serve as the perfect arena for the Ghanaians to wade off the challenges from Werewolves and Dauphines Atlantique Clubs both from Benin Republic, Black Warriors RFC of Togo and a host of home-based teams like Kaduna RFC, Bayelsa RFC, Lagos RF, Edo RF, PH Scales RFC, Kings RFC, Ogun, Racing RFC and AJ Sharks.
Aside the huge contests on offer, the women will also have their day on the sand as ECO 2, Gosar RFC, AJ Sharks and a Benin Republic selected team will add to the rich menu of rugby exhibition.
The tournament will hold on December 7 and 8 at the National Stadium and the SOL Beach Elegushi Lagos.
The organiser Turbo Crest has also decided to deepen the development of the game with the introduction of the U-15 category.
The event has been leaning on Mariteam, Whassan, Famboss, KTS, Nido and others for it’s continued support.
The Sandie Beach Rugby has continued to serve as a significant reference point for the run, tackle and tumble game by creating a platform for teams within and outside the country to showcase the beauty of the game.
