Townsend On Target As Luton Town Stun Newcastle

Andros Townsend scored his first goal for Luton Town as they secured a 1-0 victory against his former club Newcastle United at Kenilworth Road on Saturday.

The result marked Newcastle’s third defeat in their last four Premier League games, highlighting Eddie Howe’s injury-hit side.

Townsend put his side in front in the 25th minute by heading home Ross Barkley’s flick-on from a corner. Barkley nearly secured a second goal eight minutes later, unleashing a powerful shot that struck the underside of the crossbar.

Alexander Isak believed he had equalised for Newcastle in the 61st minute by slotting home from Miguel Almiron’s pass. However, he was flagged offside, and a VAR review confirmed the initial decision to disallow the goal.

While remaining a threat on the counterattack, Luton had to defend for much of the remainder of the game. They managed to secure the win, placing them in 18th position with 12 points after 17 games, while Newcastle dropped to seventh with 29 points.
