Troops of Operation Hadin Kai Joint Taskforce North-East have neutralised one Abu Fatima, a top commander of the Islamic States of West African Province (ISWAP).
Security sources said the terrorist leader was killed alongside two of his top men at Aleru Village of Kukawa local government area of Borno State.
The Nigerian Army confirmed the killing on it official Facebook page on Friday.
Abu Fatima is among the top wanted terrorists by the Nigerian military with the bounty of ₦100 million on him.
He was said to be responsible for coordinating attacks in northern part of Borno State, especially the Baga axis.
The terror kingpin was first captured alive but later died as a result of excessive bleeding after gun battle.
Among the items recovered in the operation were motorcycles, AK 47 rifles and bomb making materials.
The military source likened the death of Abu Fatima to that of Abubakar Shekau, especially to the people around Baga, Kukawa, cross kau, Doro, and the rest where he was notorious.
“This is a milestone achievement in the side of the military and a great setback to the terrorists, ” the source said.
