UPDATED: Ex-minister, Abba Moro emerges senate minority leader

The former Minister of Interior and a four-time senator, Abba Moro, has been appointed the Senate Minority Leader.

His appointment was made known at the plenary on Tuesday by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.

The PUNCH had reported that last week the lawmakers in the Peoples Democratic Party held an emergency meeting over the replacement of the former minority leader, Simon Mwadkwon, who was sacked by the Appeal Court.

The PDP lawmakers also agreed to zone the position to the North Central to allow for fairness and equity.

Moro is from Benue State in the North Central.

There was also a newly appointed minority Whip, Senator Osita Nwgu (PDP, Enugu West).

Akpabio said the list containing the names of Senators Moro and Nwgu was signed by the majority of the senators in opposition.

He added that it was incumbent on him to make the announcement.

While briefing journalists, the new Senate minority leader stated that his leadership would provide constructive criticism and support ideas, policies, and legislation that would be in the overall interest of Nigerians.

He expressed satisfaction and commended his colleagues for finding him worthy of the position.

The Senate equally approved the report of the committee on the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency on the screening of nominations for management and the board of the agency by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Those cleared are Dr Chukwuemeka Chijoke (Managing Director), Terna Manasseh (member), Kenneth Ugbala (member), Senator Timothy Aduda (member), Babatunde Daramola (member), Preye Oseke (member), Aminu Adamu (member), Engr.
