The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) has commended Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, for his swift and decisive response to the brutal murder of some travelers from Kano State by an illegal vigilante group in Uromi, Edo State.
CISLAC’s executive director, Comrade Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, while praising the governor’s leadership and his commitment to ensuring justice for the victims, also commended the suspension of all vigilante groups in Edo State and for removing the Edo State Security Corps Commander, CP Friday Ibadin (rtd).
According to CISLAC, these steps are necessary for restoring public confidence in the state’s security framework and preventing future tragedies.
The organisation emphasised that unregulated security groups pose a significant threat to public safety and the rule of law.
“We commend the swift investigation by the Edo State government, which has already led to the arrest of 14 suspects. We also appreciate the assurance from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that security agencies are working tirelessly to ensure justice,” the statement read.
The organisation further praised the collaboration between the Edo and Kano state governments as a model of national unity, urging leaders across Nigeria to adopt similar approaches in times of crisis.
CISLAC also extended gratitude to the people of Edo State, particularly those in Uromi who risked their lives to save some victims, calling their bravery a testament to the unity and compassion that bind Nigerians together.
The group urged the Edo State government to remain committed to dismantling unregistered security outfits and strengthening legal frameworks for community security to prevent further violence.
“CISLAC remains steadfast in its commitment to transparency, accountability, and justice in Nigeria. We stand in solidarity with the victims and their families during this difficult time,” the statement concluded.
