Vehicle assembler to adopt Lagos technical college’s automobile department

Lanre Shittu Motors has said the company will adopt the Automobile Department at the Government Technical College in Aso-soba, Lagos.

This automotive company said the development will enhance the school’s academic and practical automotive programmes.

According to the Managing Director of the company, Taiwo Shittu, the initiative will include substantial financial backing, in-school training, and intensive industrial training aimed at encouraging more young people to pursue careers in automotive engineering.

Shittu who was represented by the Business Support/Admin Manager of the company, Babatunde Adenuga, made this known during an interview with journalists on the sideline of the college’s Engineering Week.

Adenuga explained that the collaboration would not only provide financial support to keep the department running but would also involve supplying tools, uniforms, and other essential equipment as part of the welfare package for students.

He added that the partnership would be mutually beneficial for both the college and LSM, with students gaining valuable industry experience and LSM identifying potential future employees familiar with its training methods and business operations.

He said, “The school will benefit immensely as we take on the financial burden of running the department. Students will have access to internships at our workshops, and securing jobs after graduation will be easier.”

He also highlighted that LSM has been absorbing students from various institutions, offering them industrial training with stipends.

The principal of the college, Folarin Sunkanmi, expressed gratitude to LSM for its support, particularly for offering students industrial training opportunities and stipends.

He praised the company’s sponsorship of the Engineering Week and encouraged other companies to follow suit in supporting technical education.

Sunkanmi also stated that such partnerships are crucial for improving the employability of graduates from technical colleges and engineering departments across the country.
