With strategic plan, sugar import ‘ll reduce drastically – NSDC

The Executive Secretary of the National Sugar Development Council (NSDC), Mr Kamar Bakrin, has pledged that the potential of the sugar sector will be fully explored to boost job creation and reduce imports.

Bakrin who led council’s management team on a courtesy visit to the Nasarawa State governor, Engr Abdullahi Sule, at the government house Lafia, noted that if the sugar sub-sector is properly developed, importation of sugar will reduce, which will save the country billions of dollars spent on importation.

Asides the immense potential for sugar production in the state, the NSDC boss said he prioritised the meeting with the governor because of the governor’s strategic position as the Chairman of the Forum of Sugar-producing States, Abdullahi W. Yunusa, Head, Public Affairs Unit of the agency, said.

Governor Sule lamented that the sugar development master plan is not being implemented properly and there is no punishment for erring operators.
