Wura Samba’s ‘Ajo Rebirth’ blends tradition, innovation

An afro-percussion band led by percussionist, singer and songwriter, Abiodun Oke, popularly known as Wura Samba, has released its third album titled, ‘Ajo Rebirth’.

According to Oke, the new album—a follow-up to the 2022 album ‘Onala’—is a 12-track project that “captures the essence of Yoruba fusion music in a high-intensity, live-recorded format designed to captivate listeners from beginning to end”.

He added that the album is a “refix” of the band’s debut album, ‘Ajo’. “While the original album featured only percussion, ‘Ajo Rebirth’ incorporates a fuller sound with bass guitar, horns, and other musical instruments,” he said.

The Wura Samba band leader also revealed that a music video was currently in the works and would be released soon.

Wura Samba is a nine-piece Afro drumming and percussion band known for blending African drumming, folk songs, and vibrant costumes in an innovative showcase.

Songs on the album include ‘Iba’, ‘Eledua’, ‘Eleboto’, ‘Ashe’, ‘Otito’, ‘Igba’, ‘Ijo Wura’, ‘Ogbo Lala’, ‘Alutere’, ‘Agba Meta’, ‘Ajo’, ‘Samba’, and ‘Osupa’.
