Maj. Gen. Samson Jiya, the club captain, told newsmen on the sidelines of the event’s tee-off ceremony that the TYB Golf Club was gradually becoming the pride and bride of golfing in Nigeria.

According to him, no fewer than 88 members were inducted into the prestigious club, which currently boasts over 500 members.

“So, we thought it wise to host and especially welcome our new members in a first-of-its-kind induction kitty.

“We are using the opportunity to educate them on the roles, values, and ethics of golf, especially as it relates to what is expected of them here at the TYB International Golf Resort and Country Club,” he said.
Maj. Gen. EPA Undiandeye, the Chief of Defence Intelligence and a special guest of honour at the event told newsmen that he was very proud of the heights the club had reached, adding that it took off from a very humble beginning.

“TYBIGRCC has indeed become a major competitive golfing course in the Nigerian golf circuit, having taken off from a very humble beginning.

“Beyond that is the fact that the very best of the best in the country now come to play in this wonderful, historic, and well maintained golf course.

“Indeed the creme de la creme of the society is now seeing TYB as the club to be, which accounts for the very high number of newly inducted members that we are seeing today,” he said.
Maj. Gen. Godwin Umelo (rtd), a veteran of the club, while briefing the newly inducted members on the core values of the club, charged them to be good ambassadors of the club, adding that TYB was a home for all, irrespective of one’s status.

“Here in TYB, we are very friendly and sociable people and relate with everyone equally and respectfully.
“That is why in TYB, we try to encourage members not to discriminate. Even though I am also a member of IBB International Golf and Country Club, I prefer to play my golf here in TYB.

“When people ask me why I prefer TYB, I tell them that anywhere there is a status symbol, I don’t go there.

“I am who I am today by the grace of God. So, I don’t play golf to show off,” he said.
Mr. Ali Peters, the vice captain of the club, revealed that new inductees were selected and confirmed as members of the club amongst so many others after going through a painstaking interview process.
