Youfitbox unveils 12-bout tourney in Lagos

Youfitbox Promotion, in collaboration with the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control, has announced a 12-bout boxing event tagged ‘The New National Title Belt Reborn’ scheduled for February 16 at Shalom Park in Lagos, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The event will feature Nigeria’s rising boxing talents in varying weight categories, with the main event being a 10-round national super featherweight title bout between Sodiq ‘Golden Boy’ Oyakojo from Ejigbo, Lagos and Ibadan’s Azeez ‘Latest’ Ayobami.

NBBofC Chairman Rafiu Ladipo praised the initiative, highlighting its potential impact on Nigerian boxing.

“This is exactly the kind of event we need to revitalise boxing in Nigeria,” Ladipo told our correspondent.

“We have so many talented boxers who just need the platform to showcase their abilities, and Youfitbox Promotion is providing that platform. This tournament will help discover new champions who will make Nigeria proud.”

NBBofC Secretary General Remi Aboderin added that the event would help raise the profile of local boxing.

“The quality of matchups we have for this event is impressive,” Aboderin said.

“From the debutants to the main event fighters, we’re looking at potential future champions. This is a significant step towards rebuilding our boxing culture.”

The undercard features promising matchups including a six-round HBE Title rematch welterweight challenge bout between Obizulike Chigbo Elisha from Iyana School LASU and Abiola Mukaila from Isheri Oshun.

Other notable bouts include Amosun Williams Kaki from Badagry against Saheed Sodiq from Ajegunle in a six-round super lightweight HBE Title fight, while debutant Dauda Azeez from Badagry faces Onabanjor Sulaiman from Ogun State in a four-round national flyweight challenge.

The event, scheduled to take place at Shalom Park, Igando, Lagos, aims to provide a platform for both established and emerging boxing talents.

Event promoter Akeem Akinade of Youfitbox Promotion encouraged potential sponsors and partners to reach out through their social media platforms for collaboration opportunities in supporting Nigerian boxing’s development.
